Offered for sale is a Hillerich & Bradsby model P72L used by Dick McAuliffe between 1961 and 1964. McAuliffe played from 1960
to 1975 with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. He retired after the 1975 season with 1,530 hits, 197 HRs, and 697 RBIs to
go along with a career .247 average. He was a key member of the Tigers' 1968 World Series championship who was a 3-time All
Star.
This 35", 30.9 oz gamer shows evidence of excellent use. Many seam impressions and ball marks are visible on both the right and
left barrel surfaces and there is grain swelling and separation from repeated contact. The handle has a repaired crack with a slight
chip missing and a light coat of pine tar. The handle and knob area was subject to water staining, but it is not nearly as severe as it
appears in the photos. The knob is stamped with the model number (P72L).
This rookie era example has great use and deserves to have a place between the bats other Tigers greats.
